Staying in Sofia Airport & Iskar
Best for: Layovers, early departures, one-night staysNobody dreams of sleeping next to an airport, but Sofia makes it painless. Terminal 2 has its own metro station on the same line that runs through the center, so even an airport stay does not cut you off from the city. A one-night stop before a 6am flight is the classic use case here.
The immediate airport area has a small cluster of dependable business hotels with shuttle service, and the Iskar district between the airport and the center adds cheaper options if you just need a bed and a hot shower. Rates here are among the lowest in the city for the quality on offer.
If your layover is eight hours or more, consider skipping the airport hotel entirely and taking the metro to Serdika. The ride is about 20 minutes and central Sofia is compact enough to see something real in an afternoon. Otherwise, compare the airport options below.

Getting around from the airport area
Terminal 2 has its own metro station, with trains into the center about every ten minutes taking roughly 20 minutes to Serdika. A free shuttle links the two terminals. If you land late, licensed taxis from the official rank outside arrivals are cheap enough that there is no reason to gamble on anything else.
Most of the airport hotels run their own shuttles around the clock, which is the detail that matters at 4am. Confirm the shuttle schedule with the hotel when you book, not when you land.
