Staying in NDK & South Center
Best for: Convenience, conferences, metro accessThe area around NDK, the enormous National Palace of Culture, is the practical choice. The park in front of it works as the city’s living room, full of skaters and cafe terraces in the warm months, and the NDK metro station puts you two stops from Serdika and a direct line from the airport with no changes.
Hotel supply here leans large and reliable. Several of the biggest hotels in Sofia sit within a few hundred meters of the palace, joined by newer mid-range options along Vitosha Boulevard’s southern, non-pedestrian half. If you are in town for a conference at NDK itself, staying anywhere else makes little sense.
You give up a little charm compared to Oborishte or the old center, and the traffic around the ring of boulevards is real. In exchange you get space, convenience and usually better value per square meter. The map below shows current availability around NDK.
Three places we'd book in NDK
Grand Hotel Millennium Sofia
The five star skyscraper right next to the palace, with a sky bar that owns the best view in Sofia. The flashiest address in the city.
Hilton Sofia
At the entrance to South Park, opposite NDK. Park views, executive floors and the most dependable service in this part of town.
Rosslyn Central Park Hotel Sofia
A four star facing NDK from Vitosha Boulevard, so you get the palace on one side and the shopping street on the other.

Getting around from NDK
NDK station on the M2 line sits under the palace itself, two stops from Serdika where you change for the airport train. The pedestrian half of Vitosha Boulevard starts a few hundred meters north, so the walk into the old center is flat and simple.
This is also the best-connected corner of Sofia for intercity travel: many long-distance buses leave from the terminals nearby, and Bulgaria Boulevard gets you onto the ring road quickly if you are renting a car.
